Newtownards mum and daughter Karen and Ashton Myatt are teaming up to compete in the forthcoming Belfast Telegraph Runher on Sunday October 9 at Stormont Estate. The duo are set to join stylists and staff from Bangor based hair company DKY where Karen works and the salon is also providing six months free hair care for the winner of the 10K race as well as special discount vouchers and Joico samples for all entrants goody bags.

Thirteen year old Ashton cheered her mum to the finish line last May and decided to have a go herself and both plan to take part in the 5K race category. Ashton and Karen are pictured getting in some pre race practice along the picturesque beach at Ballyholme, Bangor.

Online entry costs £15 until Friday 30th September and thereafter £17 with online entry closing on Wednesday 5th October. Race director Michael Jenkins, owner of event organising retail outlet, Up and Running stressed the fun side of Belfast Telegraph Runher. “It’s a great day out, the camaraderie and support is super and we encourage all women to come along and have a go. For first timers there’s plenty of choice in the level of challenge they would like to tackle. Choose a gentle 5k stroll, a 10k walk, jog or run 5k or 10k and take in the beautiful and historic surroundings of Stormont.”
In a bid to encourage even more women to take up running, organizers are also seeking Runher ‘Champions’ to sign up 10 like-minded runners or walkers. Each champion will receive a special goody bag worth £80. All would-be champions should email Jennifer@runher.co.uk with their contact details and include a full contact list of their 10 co-walkers or runners.
Potential entrants are also invited to take part in a special free training session at Ormeau Park, Belfast on Saturday 17th September at 11am to help them gear up for race day on Sunday 9th October.
Runher, Northern Ireland’s largest female only running event is sponsored by the Belfast Telegraph and the 2011 programme is also backed by Belfast City Council through their ‘Support for Sport’ initiative, Sport Northern Ireland and Cool FM through its Cash for Kids charity initiative.
